The lap plays out as you go. First stop: Copse, and the car does not lift.

01 / 04 · Turn 9

Copse

Approach speed 290 km/h

Flat out in the dry, if you trust the car. The old first corner, and still the one drivers talk about in the drivers' briefing.

02 / 04 · Turns 10–13

Maggotts & Becketts

Approach speed 260 km/h

Left, right, left, right, each one faster than looks possible. Widely called the best sequence of corners in motorsport.

03 / 04 · Turn 15

Stowe

Approach speed 250 km/h

The end of Hangar Straight and the best overtaking spot on the circuit. Sit here and you will see somebody's race change.

04 / 04 · Turns 17–18

Club

Approach speed 185 km/h

The long right that decides the run to the line. Wins have been taken and thrown away in these last two hundred metres.

04/Off track

The racing is half of it

Fan zone

Sim rigs, driver signings, show cars

Between sessions the fan zone runs all day: F1 simulators, current and former drivers on stage, and a line of championship-winning cars you can stand next to.

Music

Headliners on Friday and Saturday night

The main stage opens after the last session both evenings. Stay inside the circuit, watch the sun go down over the campsites, and nobody has to drive anywhere.

Camping

Wake up 400 metres from the gates

Woodlands campsite takes tents, campervans and pre-pitched options. Fall out of bed, walk to the banking, claim your spot before the queues.

Support races

F2, F3 and Porsche Supercup

The racing does not stop when the F1 cars are in the garage. The junior categories produce the closest racing of the weekend, and the next British champion is probably in one of them.

05/Getting there

Arrive without the drama

By car

Park & ride from four sites

Book parking with your ticket. Gates open at 07:00 and the last shuttles leave 90 minutes after the podium. Follow the event signs, not your sat nav.

By train

Milton Keynes or Banbury, then shuttle

Direct shuttles run from both stations all three days, around 40 minutes each way. Book a seat in advance on race day: they sell out.

On foot or bike

Local? Lucky you

Free secure bike parking at every gate, and marked walking routes from Silverstone village and Whittlebury. The fastest way in on Sunday morning, honestly.

06/Questions

Before you ask

What happens if it rains?

It races. Silverstone in the wet is arguably better than Silverstone in the dry, and some of the most famous British Grands Prix happened in a downpour. Grandstand seats are uncovered, so pack a poncho. Umbrellas block views and are not allowed in the stands.

Is it suitable for kids?

Yes, thousands come every year. Children under 11 get free General Admission with a paying adult, and there is a dedicated family zone with quieter viewing. Bring ear defenders for anyone small: the cars are quieter than they used to be, but not that quiet.

Can I leave and come back in?

Yes. Your ticket is scanned in and out, so you can go back to the campsite or car between sessions and return for the action.

What should I bring?

Sunscreen and a raincoat, because Britain. A refillable bottle: free water points around the circuit. A portable charger, ear protection, and cash-free cards only, the circuit is cashless.

What time should I arrive on Sunday?

Earlier than you think. Gates open at 07:00 and the roads are busiest 09:00 to 11:00. Get in early, watch the F3 feature race, and you will be settled long before the grid forms up.
