01/The court

The scoreboard doesn’t shout.

A hundred and forty-nine years of numbers, kept politely on a dark green board. Some of them still take a second to believe.

New balls, please.

One serve to win The Championships. Four frames, slowed right down.

Frame 01 / 04

The toss

3 METRES

Chest height to three metres, dead straight. He has thrown this ball a million times and it lands in the same square foot of air every time.

Frame 02 / 04

The coil

TROPHY POSITION

Knees bent, racquet dropped behind his back, everything wound up at once. Coaches call this the trophy position. The trophy in question is sitting in a cabinet about ninety feet away.

Frame 03 / 04

The strike

140 MPH

You never quite see the strike, you hear it. By the time the crack reaches the back rows the ball is already fuzz and blur, halfway to the other end.

Frame 04 / 04

The landing

INSIDE THE LINE

Momentum carries him a full stride into the court, back leg kicked out for balance. By the time both feet are down, the ball is long gone.

Sinner leads their meetings 4–2, though Zverev took the only previous one on grass.

The call

J. Sinner to lift it.

The bookmakers make Sinner favourite and it is hard to argue. He has dropped one set in two weeks and returns like the grass owes him money. Zverev serves bigger and has waited longer for a day like this. One rain delay, one tight tie-break, and it swings. Take the Italian, just not your house on it.

Concept form guide. Not a tip. Please do not bet the strawberries.

04/Tickets

Three ways in. One involves a camping chair.

Wimbledon still holds thousands of tickets back every day for anyone prepared to turn up and wait. No other event this size would dare. It works here because queueing is the real national sport, and this is its Centre Court.

The Queue at dawn in Wimbledon Park, a long line of people in camping chairs with picnic bags
The Queue, 5:40am. Wimbledon publishes an official guide to queueing. It runs to about thirty pages. Everyone here has read it.

The Queue & Grounds Pass

£30per day

  • Join the most civilised queue in sport
  • The hill, the big screen, the atmosphere
  • Unreserved seats on courts 3 to 18
  • Show-court resales from 3pm, £15 or so
Bring a flask, join the Queue

Debenture

P.O.A.five Championships

  • The same Centre Court seat, five years running
  • Lounges, dining, and a bar with no queue
  • The only Wimbledon ticket you may legally resell
  • Priced like a small car. Holds value like one

05/Strawberries

The other national dish

Nobody remembers deciding that tennis needs strawberries. It was true by 1877 and it has stayed true since.

Imagine this with
your name on it.

This page is a concept. Nobody at the All England Club asked for it. It’s here to show what a website looks like when someone sweats the details. If you want your business to feel like this, that part’s real.
